Sri Vaithianadhaswamy Temple or Vajrathampanatha Temple, Thirumazhapadi, Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu, Ariyalur Temples, Ariyalur District Koil,
Sri Vaidyanathaswamy Temple or Vajrathampanatha Temple is located inbetween Ariyalur and Thiruvaiyaru in Thirumazhapadi. The Presiding Deity is known as Vaidyanathaswamy or Vajrathampanatha Swamy, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is a Swayambumurthy here. His Consorts here are Sundrambigai and Balambigai. Both of them have separate Shrines withiin the Temple. Saint Sundarar has sung in Praise of this Temple. The Temple was built between 1000-2000 years ago on the Banks of River Kollidam which is a tributary to River Cauvery. The Cholas, Pandyas, Pallavas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagara and the Maratha Rulers had a big hand in the development of this Temple. The East facing Rajagopuram is seven tiered and the other Gopuram is five tiered. The Temple attaches great importance to Lord Nandhi, the Sacred Bull. It is believed that Nandhi got wedded here. Nandhi assumes a human form here and has a Shrines in the name of Nandhiamperumal. The four Nandhis found here are said to represent the four Vedas. There is an exclusive Shrine for Sri Jura Haraharar. It is believed that those who offer hot boiled rice with hot rasam as an offering to the God would be rid of their fever with high temperature. There is an enclosure for the 63 Nayanmars. The Car / Chariot festival draws several Devotees from far and near.
